The Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. (LFA) is the world's largest organization exclusively dedicated to finding a cause and cure for lupus and serving people with lupus, their families and friends.  The Foundation has as its primary purposes the eradication of lupus through support of research, the early detection of undiagnosed cases  through awareness promotion and the alleviation of suffering for persons with lupus through patient services, education and support.

The LFA was incorporated as a nonprofit health agency in 1977.  The purpose of the LFA is to assist local chapters in their efforts to provide supportive services to individuals living with lupus, to educate the public about lupus, to assist in advocacy programs, and to support research into the causes and cure of lupus.  Each year hundreds of thousands of people receive service from the LFA and its network of Chapters.
