Walk for Lupus Now - 5k Walk
October 13, 2007 at 9:00AM - Centennial Park, Nashville, TN

The Lupus Foundation of America, Mid-South Chapter’s Walk for Lupus Now Nashville promotes physical activity and healthy living in a family-friendly setting. Participants are walking to raise funds to save lives from lupus, an autoimmune disease which affects more than 1.5 million Americans, more than 33,000 in Tennessee alone.

Many Walk for Lupus Now participants have lupus, or are family, friends or caregivers to someone who has lupus. People often walk "in honor" of a friend or family member who has lupus or "in memory" of someone who lost his/her battle with lupus. They are joined by thousands of caring people who walk as individuals or as part of a team to raise funds to bring an end to this life-diminishing and life-threatening disease.

About Lupus
It is estimated that approximately 30,000 Tennesseans and 1.5 million people are affected by lupus in the United States alone. Lupus affects mostly minority women of childbearing age, but can affect anyone including men and children. Lupus is a widespread disease that causes the immune system to become hyperactive and lose the capacity to distinguish the body's healthy cells from foreign invaders. Unfortunately, there is no cure for lupus. The Lupus Foundation of America is the nation's leading non-profit organization dedicated to finding causes of lupus, improved treatment methods and ultimately a cure for this devastating disease.
